FAQ

THE GAME
What is Reverie?
REVERIE TERMINAL is a pan-fandom sci-fi roleplay game set on an abandoned space station orbiting an unknown planet. It features elements of discovery and exploration, survival and horror, physical and mental trauma and some slice of life downtime. Characters wake up on Reverie Terminal, a disused space station that has fallen into disrepair, with no recollection of how they got there. It's up to them to either find out more, or find a way home.
How does my character end up on Reverie Terminal?
Were you asleep or were you unconscious? It doesn't matter. You don't know how you get there, and where, exactly, you are. Everywhere around you is metal, and there are no windows immediately available.
How characters came to be on the station remains a mystery, for the time being.
Where does my character live?
There are crew quarters on the station. They are extremely sparse - most just hold a bed, a wardrobe, a small bathroom/shower unit and a desk. However there are more than enough empty rooms for everyone.
Is there food? Water?
Yes. There is a kitchen by the mess hall on deck 2, fitted with fabricators, which are calibrated to provide sustenance for anyone on the station.
My character has special dietary needs.
The fabricators are calibrated for everyone on the station.
Is there a network?
Yes. Characters wake up next to a device playing a message on repeat. Investigating the device will show that it is connected to Reverie Network. The communication devices are essentially wrist-bands with both an in-laid display and a holographic one, akin to this. At this time, they only connect to the station network and only send messages (video/voice/text), though these messages can be both public, private or filtered to a given group. Private and filtered messages are encrypted, but not overly well, so it may be possible to hack these — or necessary to introduce better encryption.
The communicators come with a time and date function, but the date function is set to - and remains on - 01/01/1000. The time function, however, functions and runs on 24 hours in a military format. (0300hrs = 3am, 1500 = 3pm, etc.).
What happens if my character's device is destroyed (by accident or on purpose)?
If a character's device is destroyed, that primarily means the character is without a device. There are a couple of ways to deal with this, icly and oocly: firstly, there are terminals/stations around the space station that are connected to the network, so they could still access it if they wanted. Secondly, they could (with ooc permission from the other player, of course) steal a communicator from someone else or share one with another character. Thirdly, it is possible to get a new communicator through bonus ac.
Can a character be anonymous on the network?
Through Bonus AC, characters can request a second device, which would have its own ID, which would allow users to use the network anonymously - as if they were under a sock.
Can my character hack a device/ID?
If your character has the hacking capabilities, and the hacking is agreed upon OOCly, yes.
Where can my character go?
Nowhere, technically, is off limits. However, the station has been in disuse for a long time, and may have sustained some damage from outside elements, as well. Some areas are completely blocked off, and will require some work to open up, some simply appear locked for no clear reason.
Does my character have anything on them when they arrive?
They come to wearing a Reverie Terminal suit - basically, faded gray-green or grey-blue overalls. Along with it, they have a set of undergarments, as well as two extras in their quarters, and an extra suit. They also will be fitted with magnetic boots. If they so wish, characters can have a small token of home with them - something that can fit in their pocket.
Can my character take the station apart or destroy it?
When characters take apart parts of the station, such as the walls, they feel lethargic and weak or woozy. This affects powered and non-powered individuals, possibly to the point of fainting. If, however, they carefully and non-violently open a panel on a spot where that is possible (e.g. for maintenance, because there are screws, etc.), they will not suffer these effects. The effects occur primarily when it comes to violent and/or structural damage to the station.

THE MECHANICS
What kind of character can I play?
At present, we are accepting canon and original characters. Malleable protagonists may be apped in on a case by case basis, please contact the mods before apping. CRAU, canon OCs, and real/historical characters cannot app.
Two of the same character coming from different canons can be apped (ex: MCU!Tony and 616!Tony).
Does my character keep their powers?
As long as said powers can't interfere with the way the station works, or would be game-breaking, yes. Some powers may be nerfed for gameplay purposes.
What about characters who are injured or dying at their canon point?
Characters who are injured will retain that injury, though fatal injuries may suddenly appear less life-threatening than they were. Characters who are dead or dying at their canon point will be pulled from (just) before their death.
Is there an age cap?
We ask that players be 18+, and that characters be 16+, as this game deals with horror elements, as well as being sex-friendly.
My character isn't humanoid, can they stay that way?
That is up to you. Non-humanoid characters can be humanized, or stay as they are. We only ask that you state and explain your preference in your application.
What can I expect from the game's tone?
Reverie Terminal deals with themes of horror and survival as well as exploration. This means that there will be times when plots and mod-posted logs contain elements that are physically, mentally or emotionally disturbing or distressing for characters, from hallucination to gore to body horror. No such elements will be mandatory to play, but they will be part of the game's tone. Heavier plot elements will be off-set with downtime to give the opportunity for CR to settle and build.
Is there anything that's off limits?
The game deals with horror elements and is sex-friendly, so the range of playable themes is wide. That said, noncon is off limits in game. Additionally, we ask that all threads dealing with elements that may be disturbing for others as well as any sexual content is clearly marked as such.
How many characters can I have in game?
For now, two per players. However, a third slot can be unlocked through AC bonus points.
Speaking of AC, what is it?
Reverie works on a points-based system. No need to make sure a thread if 10 comments or longer, you can tally up all of the comments you've made throughout the month and submit them for AC. Points are distributed thusly:
Open log = 20 points
Open top level on an event log = 20 points
Open network post = 20 points
Log comment = 15 points
Network comment = 10 points.
Minimum AC is 200 points.
What if I have a lot more than 200 points?
You can submit your extra points for bonus AC! Bonus AC can be accumulated over time and allows you to unlocks goodies for your character, like extra food packs, weapons, ammo, or an extra character slot, while we are not at game cap. More explanation here.
What if I have less than 200 points?
You can request a strike before or during the AC period by contacting the mod team. Players cannot take two strikes in a row, and cannot take a strike for the AC period following a hiatus. They also cannot request a hiatus after a strike. To clear a strike, you'll need 300 points in the next AC period.
Will there be AC warning lists?
No.
What if I forgot to fill out AC?
If a player doesn't respond to AC, isn't on hiatus, and hasn't requested a strike before or during the AC period, they will be automatically swept out of the game.
What is the AC period?
AC opens on the 1st of every month and runs until the end of 7th. The game runs on UTC.
Can I re-app after being swept?
Yes. If you are swept, you are welcome to reapply, subject to the availability of app slots in light of the game cap. However, to pass AC on the next AC check, you will need 300 points.
Can I take a hiatus?
Of course! If you have passed the previous AC check, you can hiatus over the length of an AC period (= one month), by posting on this page. Should you need extenuating circumstances and/or an extension, please do contact the mods.
What is the game cap?
At present, the game is capped at 100 characters, subject to being revisited in the future.
Is there a canon cap?
Yes. Cast cap is 10 characters. Franchises are considered as single canons, so all MCU movies would be one canon for the sake of this cap, as would all DCTV shows.
What is the app schedule?
Apps are always open; there are no reserves.
Are app challenges allowed?
No.
How long do I have to wait to app from a new canon?
As apps are always open, we ask for a wait of one (1) month after a movie comes out (US release), and one (1) week after the airing of a new TV show episode before apping a character from a new canon/episode.
How quickly do you reply to apps?
We aim to reply to any application within a week.
How quickly do you reply to questions?
We aim to reply to any question within a week, depending on the complexity of it.
Can I canon update?
Yes, this is now possible.
Can my character die?
Yes. However, death means little to Reverie Terminal. Should your character die, they will be brought back — how? No one knows (yet). However, every time a character dies and is brought back to life, characters lose a little... something. For some, it's a limb. For others, it's memories, senses, or even their social skills.
How long does that loss last?
That is up to you. It can be permanent, but it can also only last a few days.
When characters die, what happens to them? How long is it before they revive? Do they wake up where they died, or are they somewhere else?
It may take between a second to several minutes for characters to revive, depending on the severity of injuries. They wake up where they died.
