Setting

THE STATION, LOCATIONS ON

» THE STATION

Reverie Terminal is a mid-sized station with seven decks, in orbit around an unknown planet. It appears to be made for and by humans; the only identifying markers are logos of Reverie Terminal. Its air is breathable, if tasting somewhat stale, and the outer rings rotate, using inertial forces to simulate gravity. The station is shielded against radiation and is built to withstand the impact of space debris, smaller meteoroids, dust, etc.
The station is in a vacuum, and therefore resembles a giant thermos bottle. It needs a radiator to eliminate heat from absorbed sunlight. Reverie Terminal uses coolants and cooling systems, such as chilled water from a central radiator.

» CREW QUARTERS

There are crew quarters on decks 3 to 6. Most of these are individual quarters, holding a single bed, a built-in wardrobe a small desk and a bathroom/shower unit. Some of the individual units are more spacious, also featuring a seating area. Other units are made for couples, holding a double bed, a larger wardrobe, two desks and a bathroom/shower unit. The largest crew quarters appear to have been made with families in mind, featuring two rooms with connecting doors between them. One room features several wardrobes, a double bed, and two bunk beds, the other a kitchenette and seating area. There is a larger bathroom/shower unit between them.

None of the crew quarters have windows.

» CORRIDORS

Characters wake up in one of the numerous corridors of the station. The corridors are dark and grimey, with dim and flickering lights. This is the same on all decks. In regular intervals, there are fire doors, elevators, and air vents. All of these feature the number of the deck as well as the Reverie Terminal logo.

Some of the corridors feature casing that looks like it should be housing... something. These are empty, except for some dirt.

None of the corridors have windows.

» OBSERVATION DECK

The observation deck can be found on deck 1. The entire outer corridors of deck one feature floor to ceiling windows, allowing for a 360 degree view of the surroundings of the station (though you'll need to walk the radius of the deck to get the full 360 degrees). It shows the planet Reverie Terminal is orbiting and two moons as well as a distant yellow sun and another planet that is too far in the distance to make out any details. Beyond that, it's possible to see distant stars.

» MESS HALL

The mess hall can be found on deck 2. There are a number of replicator-like devices that sometimes work and sometimes don't. Nothing is particularly palatable. Some of the walls look like they should be housing... something, and so do the tables, made of plexiglass. There are some tables for just two persons and others that can seat up to twenty. There are no windows in the mess hall.

» BAR

On deck 3, there is a bar. The shelves behind the bar still hold various bottles of alcohol. Some have been opened and are half-empty. There are no windows in the bar.

» FITNESS AREA

On deck 4, there is a sizeable fitness area with equipment for both weight lifting and cardio. There is a swimming pool that is still half full, though the water does not look very clean. It seems like it's been left to its own devices for a long time already.

» LOCKED AREAS

All around the station, there are doors that will not open. The inner corridors of deck 1 are locked entirely, a large area of deck 2 is inaccessible to characters, decks 5 and 6 similarly feature inaccessible areas and deck 7 is entirely inaccessible at this time. The "shaft" of the station around which the rings rotate cannot be accessed, either. More locations may become available as characters discover more about the station and its secrets.

» OVERVIEW

The station has 7 decks. Deck 1 holds the observation deck and a locked area. Deck 2 holds the mess hall and a locked area. Deck 3 holds crew quarters and the bar. Deck 4 holds crew quarters and the fitness area. Deck 5 holds crew quarters and a locked area. Deck 6 holds crew quarters and a locked area. Deck 7 is locked entirely. The shaft of the station is also locked.

THE STATION, LIFE ON

» ATMOSPHERE & FEEL

The station is, on the whole, metallic, dark and somewhat grimy. There is a lot of dirt in the corridors, especially where there are casings in the wall that seem to be made to hold something. The rings spin to create artificial gravity via inertial forces, so characters experienced with space should not suffer from any ill effects, but characters new to space may suffer from dizziness, inner ear/balance problems and nausea lasting the first month after arrival.

» INVENTORY

All characters wake up wearing a jumpsuit in a faded dark green or faded dark blue with the logo of Reverie Terminal on the chest and no other identifying marks on it. Next to them, they will find a communication device that can be clasped around the wrist with the possibility for video or voice messages as well as text shown via a holographic display. These communication devices connect to the Reverie Network.

» LANGUAGE

Everything on Reverie Terminal is in a language that characters instinctively understand, read, speak and write, though none of them have seen it before. For ease of reference, it may be called Basic.

» EQUIPMENT

Currently, a number of locations on the station are still inaccessible to characters, which limits the equipment that is publicly available. In common rooms (e.g. the bar, the gym area, the mess hall), characters can find basic first aid kits as well as basic tool kits as well as fire extinguisher. The kits are located near the fire extinguishers in compartments in the wall that are not immediately visible — so characters would either need to search a room carefully or know what they're looking for, e.g. because they're familiar with storage solutions on space stations.

THE SYSTEM

» THE PLANET

As far as can be seen from orbit, the planet features blue-green areas that may be oceans, some land masses that appear green-purple and others that appear white with black or yellow-grey patches from orbit. It is slightly smaller than Earth.

» THE MOONS

There are two moons also rotating around the planet that are at times visible from the station. One is white, the other is in soft pink and purple hues.

» THE REST OF THE SYSTEM

The planetary system Reverie Station in is set around a yellow sun. There is at least one other planet in the distance; too far away to make out any details. Beyond that, there are stars in the distance.
